Trust me you'll both know him - although he's hardly ever on TV nowdays, and hasn't been since the early eighties. The last time I saw him was interviewed on Bob Mills about ten years ago
P - I though you'd have got it, no - not Bob. He was an actor mainly famous for one show (guarantee you'll even have have the hugely famous theme tune somewhere) - which has kept a cult following ever since..and was revived briefly in the nineties although not with any of the originals

Is it one of Hinge and Brackett?
I can see where you're coming from BA, but no. Nor is it the drummer from The Grumbleweeds - who did a fab impersonation of Hinge (or Brackett)
But in a similar way to H and B, the mysery man was at his most famous as part of a pair.
Sid Little! Next!
'Fraid not - you're getting colder..
I'm not sure but if the woman in the middle nods her head do they all turn into Larry Hagman playing an astronaut!
She looks a bit stern doesn't she.

Was he a detective character?
G & I think we share a mental image, but neither of us can grasp his name yet…
I see this is already answered, plus I would have no clue. I had never heard of him before.
