Trilogy of Terror - Part 1

Nosferatu - Werner Herzog - 1979

I only saw Nosferatu for the first time a few months ago and was completely blown away by it. Klaus Kinksi gives a bone chilling performance as the shadowy hands folded Count. You can almost feel the temperature drop when he slithers into shot. It’s packed with character, colour and texture but Herzog leaves enough room for the icy tension and dark dynamics to breathe. As close as you'll get to Bram Stokers genuinely creepy Dracula novel (although criminally - the terrifying Bloofer Lady has been left out of the film )

Bauhaus - Bela Lugosi's Dead

The sound track to almost every night out in the early 80's as Positive Punk slowly evolved into Goth. Bauhaus built a frankenstein song using spare parts from Bowie, Cult Films, and dark dub reggae on this anthem for the undead.

And another tune big on the scene at the same time.
Red Lipstique - Drac's Back

The thing to do with this movie is to smoke a load of weed, mute the volume, and play the soundtrack to The Wizzard of Oz over it. Spook-ay.

I heard you can do the the reverse of that too? - Play Dark Side of The Moon while watching Wizard of Oz muted?

I've never seen either version of Nosferatu, but did watch the "Shadow of the Vampire" film, which is a quirky fictional telling of the making of the orginal, with Willem Dafoe as Max Schreck. Worth a look if you can find it.

I haven't seen that Bauhaus clip in a while. I think the original song was too low budget to warrant a video on release. That video is the opening scene from 'The Hunger' if memory serves..

I better shut up now. My ex-Goth credentials are showing!

V.S Bauhaus, Flesh for Lulu etc.. is all good Goth. It's late period Mission and Sisters you have to keep in the crypt. You're right it is from The Hunger and filmed at Camden Palace I think.

Piley - you wait til nipper starts tuning into CBEEBIES 24 hours a day (and there's CD's to sing along to too) and has more control of your TV intake then Rupert Murdoch. It'll fry your brain.
